All over the world people fly kites of their own creation for no other reason than the joy it brings them. But in many cultures—particularly in Asia—kiting is also part of religious or seasonal observances, or is the focus of traditional festivals. Signature kites and festivals have, over centuries, become important cultural components in peoples' defining who they are.
Explore this section for thumbnail descriptions of traditional kite cultures. Accompanying each description are links to resources that the Drachen Foundation offers about each culture, including original kits from some kite makers. Click on the listing, and you will link to an online posting or to the item available for purchase through the DF Online Store. Links to DF Kite Journal articles throughout the site are to groups of pages within an issue. The article you want may not begin on the first page of the link. Please scroll down until you find your subject.
As the Foundation's resources grow, and its website expands, watch for additions of cultures and resources to this list.
