A turn-of-the-century kite experimenter, Conyne won the gold medal at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair with his triangular-box, winged, kite. The New York Times called him the “scientific kitemaker” and like American kite maker Samuel Perkins, his kites were used for raising advertising banners, man-lifting, and aerial photography.
