Up to 40 feet wide, the barriletes gigantes of Guatemala are flown annually on the 1st of November to honor the dead. Tens of thousands of people turn out to view the spectacle at two villages in the Guatemalan highlands and to marvel at the beauty of these unique, ephemeral tissue paper creations, among the most wonderful objects in the world of kiting.
