Among kite fliers and fanciers, Guatemala is known for its barriletes gigantes, flown during Day of the Dead celebrations in two highland villages. Designing, building, displaying, and flying (when possible) these enormous tissue-paper creations requires sustained collaboration among team members and reflects the creators' pride in their Mayan heritage.
