The Drachen Foundation Grant Guidelines
The Drachen Foundation is a non-profit foundation [501(c)(3)] devoted to the increase and dissemination of knowledge about kites worldwide. Its grant-making program is one way in which it supports the worldwide kiting community. It seeks applicants with vision, creativity, and the ability to complete what they propose.
funding cycle: The Drachen Foundation awards grants annually; the number of grants awarded can vary from year to year. The Drachen Foundation's Board of Directors reviews proposals once a year. Applications for the following calendar year must be submitted by September 1st. Grant winners will be announced by December 31st.
steps to apply for a grant:
- Review these general terms and conditions that govern your application and any reimbursement of expenses:
- All responsibility for carrying out the project, and for obeying the terms and conditions stated herein, lie with the undersigned Grantee. In the event of any dispute over the terms of this grant, the Grantee agrees to cooperate fully with The Drachen Foundation (DF) to settle the differences.
- The Grantee agrees to use grant funds only for the proposed project as described in the application submitted by the Grantee to DF.
- The Grantee will submit a written request for permission before making substantial changes to the grant project that will materially alter the expenses anticipated to be reimbursed by the grant as set forth in the application. This requirement applies particularly to the allocation of budget and to the project schedule. In the event of failure to notify DF of such changes, DF reserves the right to alter the amount of the grant or to cancel the award.
- DF reserves the right to request interim progress and financial reports from all grantees.
- DF requires that Grantee acknowledge DF support in materials that are produced in relation to this project (such as, but not limited to, written or online publications, photographs, videos, brochures, press releases). DF requires the Grantee to supply DF with five sets of materials in which DF support is acknowledged within sixty (60) days of the project's completion. DF will provide the DF logo in electronic format, with specifications for its use, after Grantee accepts the grant.
- The Grantee is responsible for maintaining records of all income and expenditures related to this project for not less than three years following the conclusion of the project. DF reserves the right to conduct an audit of these records.
- The Grantee will submit a Final Project and Financial Report within sixty (60) days of completion. DF will review the Final Project and Financial Report (including materials specified in Item #5, above) and request any additional documentation within thirty (30) days of submission. Reimbursement of authorized expenses will be made by check or wire transfer within thirty (30) days of acceptance of the Final Project and Financial Report.
- DF reserves the right to rescind a portion of, or the entire, grant, either in the course of or after the completion of the project, under the following circumstances
- If false information is given by the Grantee;
- If the project is suspended or discontinued;
- If it is ascertained that there is no possibility of completing the project as described in the application;
- If the nature of content of the project changes in such a way that would make it ineligible for DF support
- If there is a change in the legal status of the Grantee (if so, the Grantee shall notify DF of such change immediately);
- If it is ascertained that the Grantee has materially breached the substance of these terms and conditions;
- If the Grant Acceptance Form, or a letter declining the award, is not received by DF within sixty (60) days of the Grant Award Letter, the grant offer will be null and void.
- Submit a grant application
Grants for the following calendar year will be announced by December 31. The Drachen Foundation releases its grant funds only as reimbursement for documented expenses, after receipt and review of the grantee’s final report. The amount reimbursed under any grant may not exceed $5,000.00 USD.
