The Drachen Foundation encourages K-12 teachers and schools to develop and test integrative lesson plans using kites. The Drachen Foundation will support development of lessons in two ways: (1) by reimbursing for the cost of materials, up to $100.00 USD, for testing a selected kite lesson (the lesson must use one or more of the kites from the DF Online Store); (2) by paying an honorarium of $100.000 USD for posting completed kite lessons on the DF website.
Please take the following steps for consideration of your proposed lesson:
- Review DF lesson plans, at http://www.drachen.org/classroom_lessons.html, to ensure that your proposal does not replicate an existing lesson.
- Submit this online form via e-mail to describe your proposed kite lesson plan. The online form requires the following information:
- your name; the name and address of your school; the school website; your tenure at the school; any leadership role you have played within your school and/or district
- the kite you propose to use
- a brief description of the proposed lesson (maximum 100 words)
- the curriculum/curricula with which you will integrate your lesson
- the age of the students for which the lesson plan will be developed
- any special factors (gifted students; English language learner students; special education students, etc.)
- a sample lesson plan on any subject that you have already developed (may paste lesson plan into form or send a URL where the lesson plan can be reviewed online)
Please allow up to four weeks for review of your proposed lesson plan.
- If your proposed kite lesson plan is approved for materials reimbursement, The Drachen Foundation will mail you written notice of approval, student photo release forms, and a form to claim reimbursement of documented expenses for materials, up to $100.00 USD. Your expenses will be reimbursed only after The Drachen Foundation has received and reviewed your final lesson plan and photo documentation (digital files). Please allow up to four weeks for final review of your project. By applying for reimbursement, you are granting The Drachen Foundation a perpetual worldwide license to post the materials for public viewing on its website at www.drachen.org or other such site as The Drachen Foundation may use.
- At its sole discretion, The Drachen Foundation may post selected lessons on its website, as part of the teaching materials it makes available to the public. If The Drachen Foundation selects your lesson to be posted, it will contract with you for permission to post the lesson and pay you an honorarium of $100.00 USD and attribute development and copyright of the lesson to you with the posted materials.
Please address any questions about this grant program to education@drachen.org.
