| ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS TO FLY 10,000 KITES FOR PEACE IN SPRING 2005 IN MORE THAN 50 LOCATIONS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SEPARATION WALL
Israelis and Palestinians want the world to know that they desperately want peace. They are going to prove it by painting 10,000 kites with their messages of peace and flying them in more than 50 locations on both sides of the 38-foot high, 500-kilometer long wall separating them. They need our help to make those kites fly.
10,000 Kites, is a Los Angeles based organization in partnership with The Association for Arts in the Community and Cross-Cultural Dialog, established in 1998 by Israeli and Palestinian artists and educators to encourage dialogue through mutual artistic creations. Israeli artists Adi Yekutieli, the project’s visionary, and his Palestinian colleague, artist George Nustas, are facilitating the joint Israeli-Palestinian venture to create and manufacture the kites, as well as the painting of the kites by Israeli and Palestinian families.
Getting the kites off the ground is just the beginning. 10,000 Kites, with the help of more than 80 participating Israeli, Israeli/Arab, and Palestinian organizations, plans to put the messages of hope into action with educational programs and materials to promote ongoing dialogue; a documentary film for widespread exposure; murals, banners, and billboards to visually reinforce the desire for peace; an interactive web site; Israeli and Palestinian music and multi-media that encourage peace; and by creating a growing community of Israelis and Palestinians whose collective call for peace will be heard around the world.
Support for this project outside Israel is essential to its success. The cost of this project is $250,000. Our goal is to raise half those funds by the end of December 2004, the target dates for Israelis and Palestinians to begin their work on 10,000 Kites.
Liberty Hill Foundation is acting as fiscal sponsor, and will send all gifts intended for The Association for Arts in the Community and Cross-Cultural Dialog in Israel to the New Israel Fund, donor-advised, which will send the donations to the Association for the Arts in the Community and Cross-Cultural Dialog. All contributions are tax-deductible.
