After 10 years of wonderful international
kite workshops coordinated by Hans Soyka, the Drachen Foundation
celebrated Fano’s 20th anniversary with something
new, a group kite encounter with Rick Miller and Randy Shannon
That American Duo, Rick Miller/New Mexico and Randy Shannon/Arizona
were the dynamic duo who took note and notice of hundreds
plus years of traditional Japanese Edo kite making, and brought
it to contemporary times using the engineering mathematics
and the manipulative artistry of modern materials!
In Fano, Denmark, we assisted Rick and Randy in the design,
painting (on the beach?) constructing, bridling and flying
of a contemporary Shirone style kite in tyvek and fiberglass
spars….All in a 5 hour blustery period!
