The Contemporary Japanese Shirone Kite Workshop
Washington State International Kite Festival
Long Beach, Washington
August 24th, 2001
An exuberant group of kite makers led by Randy Shannon and Rick Miller of the Southwest built a 10 foot by 15 foot Shirone-style kite. Participation in the project was open to all. The kite was built from materials including Tyvek, paper, spaghetti fiberglass, fabric dye and 90 bridle lines. The finished kite was on the field and successfully flown by 5 p.m. that same afternoon. Look for the next Shirone-style open workshop coming to a field near you!
