Living history, join us in Mexico for The Day of the Dead!

The beautifully region of Oaxaca, the cradle of the Zapotec and Mixtec cultures, constitutes on of the earliest centers of population in Mesoamerica.

This location has captivated visitors for centuries, the greenish limestone used to build it’s churches gave rise to its Indian name, “City of Jade.”

The English poet and novelist Malcolm Lowry (1909-57) described as “the most beautiful city in the world.” It’s one of the few locations in Mexico that has kept it’s sense of tradition and history in the modern world.

In spite of its amazing colonial architecture it has also retained a strong Indian identity, even though the Indians have been gradually pushed toward the outskirts.

Oaxaca is also known for it’s rich Mexican food tradition, famous for it’s white cheese, black beans, mole, the mixture of spicy-sweet chocolate, chilies, garlic and peanuts, to name a few of the ingredients, cooked in a sauce, then baked with chicken or turkey.

Through the work and vision of Oaxacan artist Francisco Toledo, Oaxaca boasts a dynamic artistic community in spirited by the works of Rufino Tamayo, and Rodolfo Morales.
