The Atlantic Center for the Arts residency program took to the skies with WINDART, a residency featuring over 30 international kite and sky artists. WINDART, a project-oriented residency, featured three master kite artists: Tal Streeter, sculptor, sky artist and author, led "WINDART Sculpture: Beyond Modern Kites;" Katsutaka Murooka, kite artist, aerial photographer, and architectural designer, led "WINDART Technology and Aerial Photography;" and Marc Ricketts, kite performance artist, architect and holder of an important art kite patent, led "WINDART Events and Performance." Artists, inventors, photographers, composers, poets, and dancers worked on innovative collaborations, from sculpture to performance art. The residency culminated in a Kite festival coordinated by Stuart Allen, held on the beaches of New Smyrna, Florida. This residency was sponsored in part, by the City of New Smyrna Beach and The Drachen Foundation.

Paul Smith, ACA National Council member and Director Emeritus of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York City, conceived and organized the three-week residency, in conjunction with Tal Streeter and ACA programming staff.
