Kits are available at the Drachen Foundation Online Store (please call 206-282-4349 for any kits not yet listed), and can be purchased in advance to allow students more time to decorate their kites prior to the workshop. Kites priced at $1.00 are available only in packs of ten for $10.00 Other kites can be purchased individually or in packs of ten at considerable savings.

Multi-Session Discount: Schools/Organizations which book 4 or more sessions a day with a workshop leader will receive a discount code to receive a 15% discount from the Drachen Foundation on any of the $10/10 pack kite kits. Please mention discount code when ordering.

Greg Kono

Greg Kono, a sansei (third generation) Japanese American kite maker based in Seattle, leads kite making workshops for students during school days and in after-school programs. Subjects include

  • Simple Kites (single 50-minute session)
  • Kites Around the World (three to six 50-minute sessions)
  • Designs of a Kite Maker (single 50-minute discussion/demonstration of kite designs)

Scott Skinner

Scott Skinner, renowned kite maker and collector, and president of the Drachen Foundation, lectures to adults on Japanese kites and Contemporary Kites of Paper & Bamboo. He also conducts workshops for adults and children on paper kite making. E-mail information@drachen.org for information.


Mikio Toki

Mikio Toki of Tokyo, Japan is a master kite maker and painter who, for more than thirty years, has taught children and adults how to make and paint traditional Japanese kites. E-mail information@drachen.org for information.


Nobuhiko Yoshizumi

Nobuhiko Yoshizumi of Kyoto, Japan works on a small scale, crafting exquisite miniature kites. He teaches both children and adults. E-mail information@drachen.org for information.
